Huang Lei is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of the Environment, Nanjing University. She is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, a selected member of Jiangsu Province's "Six Top Talent" program, and a visiting scholar at the Environmental Health Exposure Assessment Center of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, USA.

Professor Huang has long been engaged in research on environmental ecology and health risk assessment and regulation, as well as the development of environmental monitoring and risk early warning emergency systems. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches integrating geography, epidemiology, psychology, and other fields, conducting long-term observational tracking and big data analysis of pressing environmental issues. She has led five projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and has undertaken over 20 provincial/ministerial-level or above research projects, including those under the NSFC Innovative Research Group, the National Key R&D Program of China, the Major Water Pollution Control Program, and public welfare environmental protection special funds. She has published over 100 academic papers. As first author or corresponding author, she has published nearly 200 papers in journals such as Nature Energy, Nature Climate Change, Nature Communications, PNAS, and One Earth. Her work has been cited more than 15,897 times, with 7 ESI Highly Cited Papers and a single paper receiving up to 2,881 citations. She holds 34 authorized patents and software copyrights. She has received three first prizes and one second prize at the provincial/ministerial level. For many consecutive years, she has been listed among the world's top scientists, the top 2% of scientists globally, and Elsevier's China Highly Cited Scholars (H-index 51). She also serves on the editorial boards of academic journals such as The Innovation, Eco-Environment & Health, Environmental Research, Journal of Environmental Hygiene, and Environmental Ecology.
